The 4th Session of the Tokyo Convention Committee was held online on November 1 and December 2-3, hosted by the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China.

The 4th Session of the Tokyo Convention Committee was held online on November 1 and December 2-3, hosted by the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China.

The meeting was attended by around 80 delegates including the members of the 2011 Tokyo Convention on the recognition of qualification in higher education of Asia-Pacific countries, delegates from the ministry of education from participating countries, and national information centres (NIC). Mr. Bold Enkhbold from the NIC of Mongolia shared experiences and challenges of newly establishing NIC with the participants involved in the discussion.

During the 3-day online session, the participants discussed the important topics of micro-credentials, recognition of qualifications, and shared country models of NIC. The Bureau of Tokyo Convention Committee and Asia-Pacific Network of National Information Centres (APPNIC) based on the principle of rotation, take turns in between the member states on a yearly basis. The previous bureau of China as the President, New Zealand as the First Vice President, Sri Lanka as the Second Vice President, and Holy See as the Rapporteur gave its role as the Bureau to the next bureau. For the 2023 term, Australia was elected as the President of the 2011 Tokyo Convention, the Philippines as the First Vice President, and Mongolia as the Second Vice President. As for the Rapporteur, the Holy See will be looking over the role for the next term.
